this also made me think of art as connection, and weirdly made me want to learn another language? because words are what showed me how you felt and the reality you saw in that moment, but i can’t see that reality for others if i don’t know what they’re saying. i don’t know, maybe this just made me think of the italian woman on the plane who sat next to me and couldn’t figure out how to tell the flight attendant she didn’t want cookies, but either way - you’ve inspired me with your words today and i thank you!!
ahh i love that! as a TEFL teacher, i truly feel guilty about only speaking english fluently bc others have to work so hard to learn multiple languages. and i also sincerely believe that knowing multiple languages deeply expands people’s worldview! our language is amazing but so is every language, and each one is different and allows us to understand different feelings and places and people. like what a world we have with SO MANY languages
i could literally picture you coming out of the cinema and quickly noting down your thoughts before you forgot all the thoughts that were coming to mind (sudden and uncontrollable bursts of inspiration oh how i love you)!!! i love how you took the premise of the film and connected it to a completely different (though in some way related) idea, it just shows the TALENT and geniosity within the inner workings of your brain....... and how beautiful to choose to see a reality of love and freedom, and to hold on to the hope that some day it will be all of ours<3 thank you so much for sharing such an inspiring piece, Em, i don't know what this site would be without you<3
“In my reality, queerness is beautiful. Trans people are loved, drag queens are superstars, lesbians and bi women dance together.”
My eyes went teary as soon as I read that. Sometimes, as a bi transfemme from Türkiye, it’s so hard to feel hopeful about anything. A world where I’m loved and lawfully protected feels like a fantasy. But what gives me hope is knowing that, even though here feels like an inferno, another reality does exist, and people fought so hard to build it. It’s possible.
Thank you for reflecting that. This piece is incredible! ❤️🌸
immediately added on my watchlist. it sounds amazing, and the way you describe queerness is exactly that feeling i used to chase in my queer community's events, which i miss dearly.
"In my reality, queerness is beautiful. Trans people are loved, drag queens are superstars, lesbians and bi women dance together. I touch and taste this reality in cities and dance floors and parades across the globe, and it’s tangible. " this part especially feels cinematic. words really are so powerful !!
